4、罗德曼logo
From an empty lot to a famous logo – A Rodman history
The Rodman logo, with the letter R in the same style as the Boston Red Sox logo, sits front and center of the business.
The family moved from Maine to New Hampshire in the early 1970s. Roland Rodman, 17, and his brother, Steve, 19, went to work for their father, who was a drywall contractor. Not long after, Roland Rodman started his own company.
"I hated drywall," he said, laughing.
In 1976, his father bought a small lot on Calef Highway in Epping, where the business now stands. Except for the first two years, when he rented a building on Route 125, Roland Rodman has been there ever since.
His first shop was a shack. Literally.
"The foundation was cinder blocks and there was no heat," he said. "When a salesman came through the door, he asked me if I wanted to buy his furnace. I didn’t even have a furnace, but I bought it anyway. It was nice and warm after that."
In 1979, Rodman formed a partnership with his brother, Steve, and the two of them ran the business together until 2000, when Steve decided he wanted to go in another direction.
"It was time for a change," Roland said. "We had done everything we could together."
In 2001, Roland Rodman bought out his brother's half of the business. His wife, Maryanne, then came on board fulltime. She had worked parttime for several years, while raising their two children, Ryan and Kristen.
"I was tired of working nights and weekends and missing everything related to our kids," Roland said. "That was the best thing I ever did. I'm so thankful she wanted to be a part of this. She's been the backbone of the business ever since."
In 2005, Ryan, who had been working at Rodman for several years, became a partner in the business. Six years later, Kristen joined the team and is now the parts manager.
"We’re all very handson here," Roland said. "I'm outside a lot, dealing with customers, but I do everything. Maryanne does everything, too, from bookkeeping to ordering parts to helping customers. Kristen does a great job with the parts and Ryan does most of the sales. This business is a real family effort."
Rodman has 12 employees, with an average tenure of more than 10 years.
"We have a lot of loyal employees," Roland said. "We wouldn’t be where we are today without them."
One of the things that sets Rodman apart from other construction companies is its focus on customer service.
"We want our customers to be happy," Roland said. "We do our best to go the extra mile and make sure they're satisfied."
Rodman also has a strong commitment to the community. For the past 16 years, the company has donated a portion of its profits to the Epping Fire Department. Rodman also supports local food pantries, schools and youth sports teams.
"We believe in giving back to the community that has supported us," Roland said. "We're proud to be a part of Epping."
After more than 40 years in business, Roland Rodman is still going strong. While he admits that the construction industry has changed a lot over the years, he says that the core values of hard work, honesty and customer service remain the same.
"The construction business is a tough business," he said. "But if you're willing to work hard and put in the long hours, it can be very rewarding."
Looking ahead, Roland Rodman says that he hopes to continue to grow the business, while maintaining the same level of customer service that has made it successful.
"We're always looking for new ways to improve," he said. "We want to be the best construction company in the area."
