约瑟夫·雅各布斯(1854-1916)出生在澳大利亚的悉尼,1872年移居英格兰,就读于剑桥大学国王学院,后对人类学产生兴趣,成为英格兰民俗学会重要成员。他用十年时间收集英国民间童话,分两卷于1890和1894年出版,弥补了英国文学的一项缺憾。
1900年,举家迁往美国纽约,雅各布斯先做《犹太大百科》的修订编辑,后成为犹太神学院的英文教授。1914年返回欧洲治疗心脏病,两年后卒于此病,享年六十二岁。

角色设定
